I remember the terrorist attacks in 2001 very well. They were a scary time for the United States, but what really stuck out to me was how the United States reacted to what had happened. George W. Bush declared war on terrorism and we launched Operation Enduring Freedom (September 11, 2001). The main goal was to bring down Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. The United States was still fired up from the recent attacks. We were unsuccessful, but we did do a little bit of damage indirectly. After that, the United States attempted to clear Iraq of their weapons of mass destruction which we later found out they didn’t have any. The United States was successful in bringing down Saddam Hussein who was a corrupt ruler. The United States continued to make changes with the USA Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security. The 9/11 attacks had a huge impact on the way we run our country now and the way U.S. citizens run their daily lives. Probably the most noticeable change is in the airport security, but as long as it is keeping me safe, I won’t complain. I have seen this country go through a lot and I would love to see it stick around for a lot longer.
