Jorma Thermopolous, age 31, 8:46 a.m, September 11, 2001

I am one of the first firefighters on the scene here at The World Trade Center. It looks like the plane hit between the 93rd and 99th floor of the North Tower. It does not look good and I am guessing the plane still has a lot of gas left in it. Luckily the observation decks have not opened for the day so we don’t have to worry about people stuck there, but there are still a few floors above the crash. We are able to save 4,000 people but we were unable to save 1432 lives today (September 11, 2001). We have also started to evacuate the South Tower in case something bad happens like the North Tower collapsing.

9:03 a.m.

A plane just hit the South Tower and we hadn’t finished evacuating. We are going to try our best to get as many people out as possible, but there were still some on the higher floors. It looks like this plane hit around 77th to the 85th floors. We have evacuated everyone that we were able to and unfortunately we lost 600 people in the South Tower. This is a scary moment right now and I don’t know if something else is being planned or not. As a firefighter, I can just do my best to protect my fellow Americans.
