Charlie Bing, age 42, 9:00a.m., September 11, 2001
I was on my way to work, stopping at my local Starbucks to pick up my daily mocha latte, I heard on the radio in Starbucks that the North Building of the Twin Towers was hit by a plane. At the moment I felt out of breath, almost having an asthma attack because of my shock. I called people at my work because I too worked in the North Tower, and was on my way for a meeting on the 70th floor. No one had answered their phone. I immediately left Starbucks and rushed to the scene, and then I saw it over the hill. It looked like hell had been unleashed from the building as the voluminous black clouds seek freedom from the explosion. I started crying for all my co-workers because they were my best friends. They say most people want to get out of work as soon as the day finishes, but the truth is on my floor we were a family, so it is saddening to realize that my friends in the building are all dead. May God bless all of the people that were in the towers, and they will all be in my prayers. I have wept for my co-workers and continue to thank God for giving me another day of life.
